Online Course Structure
Sessions 1-4 CBT for Eating Disorders
The first four sessions are based on CBT, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. CBT is a way of working on negative behaviours and unhelpful thoughts and beliefs through the use of practical tools and strategies. Our program will help you to learn about different tools which will help you manage your negative behaviours, set better goals and identify unhelpful ways of thinking, so you can begin to change how you think about yourself, food, your body image and your relationships with others.
Sessions 5 – 8 The Family and Eating Disorders
The second block of four sessions are based around the family. Often, many of our beliefs and values about food and weight are rooted in the messages we received from our families, and it can often be an unconscious reaction we have. By bringing these old beliefs and values out into the open, and asking yourself “Is this really what I believe, or want to think?”, you can decide to try and change your beliefs and values, leaving other people’s opinions back in the past, where they belong.
Sessions 9-12 Mindfulness and Eating Disorders
The final four sessions are based on mindfulness. Each session focuses on a particular aspect of eating disorder behaviour and brings it right out into your awareness. By being more mindful of what you are doing, and why, you can choose to do something differently. Foods & Moods looks at how you use food to manage your feelings and emotions. There’s an entire session on Anger and Managing Conflict – a huge issue for many sufferers. Food Rules are probably the most self-sabotaging feature of an eating disorder, and we’ll look at this in good depth during that session.
This course is designed to give you an in-depth overview of Eating Disordered behaviours, and help you understand the function they are playing in your life. You’ll be able to change, reduce or stop some of your behaviours during and after the course, and you’ll also have a really good foundation with which to engage in further work, for example with a Therapist, if you feel that would help after completing our course.
I hope you'll find this program helpful, and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or queries, I’m always happy to help.
